| Biography | Dr. Jan Helge Bøhn is an Associate Professor in the Virginia Tech Department of Mechanical Engineering; Director of the Virginia Tech Computer Aided Design Laboratory; Program Lead for the Automotive Engineering Program at Virginia Tech, India; and principal investigator for PACE at Virginia Tech, the NSF REU dual site at Virginia Tech and Technische Universität Darmstadt, and the FIPSE ATLANTIS Dual BS Mechanical Engineering degree consortium with TU Darmstadt and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). Professor Bøhn is co-PI for Global-HUB, a NSF Engineering Virtual Organization; and team-teaches a course on global collaborative engineering design at Virginia Tech, TU Darmstadt, Howard University, ITESM Monterrey, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Awards include the 2005 Ernst Ludwigs Hochschulgesellschaft Preise für besondere Verdienste (Erfolge) in der akademischen Lehre; and the Virginia Tech 2007 W.S. ‘Pete’ White Innovation in Engineering Education Award, 2007 XCaliber Award and 2009 Alumni Award for Excellence in International Education. Dr. Bøhn has a B.S. in Computer Science, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer and Systems Engineering, all from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York. Prior employments include the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment, Philips Laboratories, Sun Microsystems, and General Electric Corporate Research & Development. |
