Abstract

This paper describes the history of engineering and engineers in Mexico from pre-Independence times (late 1790s) through Mexican Independence to the end of the Maximilian Empire (1867).

Although it might sound too historical for those of you who are interested in present-day Mexico, this paper will contribute to your understanding of the historical roots of the differences among engineers coming from different Mexican engineering schools. Remember: not all Mexican engineers are the same. There are profound institutional differences. As an aspirring global engineer, you have the responsibility to understand and value these differences.
