Description

What is Global Irrigation Simulator?

The Global Irrigation Simulator (GlobalHUB Tool Name: GTIASIM) is an online tool originally developed to evaluate the feasibility of irrigating a field in the Bugesera Region of the Gashora Sector in Rwanda. After preliminary research was conducted by a Purdue University – National University of Rwanda joint team, it was determined that with the given parameters, there was no feasible irrigation option. This tool was designed to be able to run simulations based on different crop inputs, pump inputs, rainfall data, and field dimensions and chart the cost vs. profit and the feasibility of the different options.

The tool was originally developed in MATLAB, but is used here with the open-source software, Octave. The tool is delivered to the web using nanoHUB.org’s Rappture project.

This tool is open source, please feel free to download the source and modify it. It is the originator’s hope that you can expand upon this tool and improve its accuracy. You can visit the development page here on GlobalHUB to review, download, and edit the source.

If you would like more information on the group behind this program, The Global Team for Irrigation in Africa (GTIA), or their parent organization, Engineers for a Sustainable World – Purdue University Chapter (ESW-Purdue), please visit their group page on GlobalHUB.
