Abstract

Departments, Colleges and Universities have always been involved globally. But a purposeful effort to add meaningful global elements to education, research and engagement has become increasingly important. This Workshop on Global Strategy for Mechanical Engineering Department Heads was designed to support heads and their department faculty in developing a robust global strategy. The Workshop was held as part of the 2009 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Education Conference March 27-31 in Hilton Head, SC.

Three facilitators led the Workshop. Their presentations are available on globalHUB.org:

One outcome of the discussion was a suggestion that a future Workshop should focus on how we can educate engineers for global competency under conditions of "extreme affordability".
