Upon arrival at EARTH University yesterday, I feel like I found peace. This place is unique and extremely close knit. I learned a long time ago when traveling to new places to sit back and observe before interacting.

There was a creek bottom aera in which they are planning to raise tilapia for visitors, a tropical forest area, a botanical garden area with expensive tropical flowers, and a propogation area for plants and animals. Chemicals are used here but in very small amounts.

I think the biodigester was my favorite part, this system was comprised of some interesting techniques. The wastes were seperating and sent into a tank and the methane gas was extracted. Microbes helped break down the biproducts and created a very fertile soil amendment. The water was filtered by a swamp type system, but the water had some algae problems.

We had the chance to see how beneficial insects were used to attract pests of other crops. Tobacco is one example, it was used to attract aphids so they would not decrease the quality of cilantro, tomato, and other crops. Vermicomposting is using worms to decompose carbon in non-acidic products. The excretion of the worms is a great fertilizer.

I guess there is such a thing as too much whiskey. In order to get work done and stay on schedule you should not drink too much whiskey. I prefer Evan Williams!
