Discussions on Improving GlobalHUB
We will use this wiki page to discuss eventual improvements/additions to GlobalHUB
Should GlobalHUB host CAD tools to be used right from the browser?
- Check here for an example
ESW-Purdue Requested Changes
Highest Priority Changes
- (Added 01/20/09) Need a less graphics intensive version of GlobalHUB for access on slow connections
GlobalHUB General Site Changes
- (Tim 02.16.09) In IE7 I receive a “Load non-secure items?” prompt for EVERY GH page I load. This may be fixed in the new version, but just a heads up. I think the addthis button is using non-secure protocol while the rest of the site is on https.
- Fixed.
- (Added 01/20/09) Add a group calendar feature or a calendar module for the Wiki.
- (Tim 01.28.09) I don’t know much about the resources feature, but is there a way to allow private group resources to be posted to the group without having to wait for approval? This could be a great private file cache/storage/sharing for a group on GH, but there could be issues if all resources, including private ones, have to be approved by someone outside the group.
- As a side note, if someone is wanting to share files with only their group, what is your ideal place to do it on GH? Should they use a Wiki page and post links (this is where the listing function below would come in handy) or post resources? Also, would a group file store be a good addition? Or was it not the intention of GH to provide this service to a group?
- It’s easier to share through wiki pages, no need to approval
- Resources have a much richer description and are directly accessible through the group resources tab
- Right now it has to be approved as even if it’s private it can be made public without need to approvals
- Administrators of any system have access to all content even private but they are bound by university policies on this matter
- This process can be improved for sure
- On the group About page, why does the
{{{#!html }}}wiki feature not work? Can we get this added?- I put a ticket for this (Mourad 02/05/09)
- Any word on the tickets you’ve added?
- We are rolling out a new version of GlobalHUB, and I hope some of the ticket will be solved (Mourad 02/16/09).
GlobalHUB Wiki Changes
- (01/20/09) Add a function similar to TitleIndex to list the files attached to a wiki page.
- Limit the table of contents for wiki pages to two header levels
- Check here for all what you can do with the GlobalHUB wiki, this will answer some of your questions (Mourad – 01/21/09)
- Can we add macro information for the File macro? (Tim – 01/26/09) This is the command I am referring to:
[[File(some_file_name.doc)]]- I don’t think you can, but what information you want to see?
- I am just looking for any information on it to be added to the WikiMacros” page. It is not even in the list of available commands, but we use it to link to any attachments that are not images.
- Need to be fixed, I’m putting a ticket.
- As a side note, I am allowed to edit the help pages. Should I be?
- Not really, we’ll fix this so people won’t vandalize these pages

- Renaming pages with a “-” in them (Tim – 01/26/09)
- This seems to be a bug, can you put a ticket with all the links, so it will be easier to understand what’s going on.
- Ticket added
- You need also to understand the difference between the name of a page and its title. If you put “:” in a title it gets automatically converted to “-”.
- Yes, I think we have that figured out now. These pages came before we discovered that.

- When you delete a Wiki Page, it sends you to some “random” page that I don’t recognize. I think it should send you to the main Wiki Page or somewhere that is easier to navigate back to the Wiki. (Jeremy – 1.28.09-23:48)
- I put a ticket for this (Mourad 02/05/09)
Solved
- (Added 01/20/09) Add wiki functions
- Would like a “DIV” function like “SPAN”
- Ability to add Admonitions like these: http://moinmo.in/HelpOnAdmonitions
- How did you solve this ? (Mourad – 01/26/09)
- All we needed was a way to add a DIV tag to emulate the admonitions (Tim – 01/26/09). While it is not necessarily a built-in function, the html processor works for this. See our main page ESW-Purdue Main
- Fixed! see HelpOnAdmonitions
- How did you solve this ? (Mourad – 01/26/09)
- Would like to add margins around images when using something like align=left and add captions to images
- How do you add a TOC to a wiki page?
- The TOC is automatically displayed on the right of the page (Mourad – 01/21/09)
- Check here for all what you can do with the GlobalHUB wiki, this will answer some of your questions (Mourad – 01/21/09)
- Should there be links to these pages from the Help:WikiFormatting page? (Tim – 01/26/09)
- Good suggestion, I added the links

- (01/22/09) H3 or === Header === does not appear on “About” page of groups. Shows up in HTML source but not on the page.
- This seems to be a bug, I put a ticket for it
- This has been fixed
- Uploading a file with the same file name to a wiki page does not replace the old file
- This was reported to me. I don’t know if this is a problem or not, but it is something that should be noted above the file upload box, maybe under the description on how to use the Image macro? (Tim – 01.26.09-16:11)
- I tried to upload a file using an existing file name and the file was replaced. I don’t know how it happened to you. Can you test again (Mourad, 01/28/09)
- Tim: They did not clear the cache on their browser before re-downloading the file. Is there a way to stick a php command in there forcing the page to reload without using the cache?
