What types of programs and experiences comprise global engineering education?
Parkinson (2007) has identified the following major program formats, with emphasis on undergraduate education:
- Dual Degree
- Exchange (of students between countries)
- Extended Field Trip
- Extension (of home university campus/programs/courses in another country)
- Internship or Co-op
- Mentored Travel
- Partner Sub-contract (home university contracts partner university abroad to teach courses)
- Project-based Learning/Service Learning
- Research Abroad
Other types of programs and experiences:
- Domestic/Local Experiences (including courses, activities, etc. with an international dimension)
- Minor or Certificate Programs
- Graduate-Level Programs (including research experiences, collaborations, joint degrees abroad)
